5 Common Condom Mistakes You’ve Probably Been Making

5 Common Condom Mistakes You’ve Probably Been Making

Sheath up the right way

There’s only one piece of sex advice I got over and over in my teens.

“Use a condom.”

That’s it.

Nothing about how to fuck better.

No tips for how to have a good time on my first time.

Barely any mention of foreplay or what foreplay even involved.

No one even told me how to use a condom. They just reminded me to do it.

Thankfully, it worked out okay for me.

I figured out the basics quickly enough.

Tear the wrapper carefully - even though tearing it open with your teeth is supposed to be sexy. Pinch the reservoir tip so there’s enough room to catch the spunk. Pull down on the rolled-up edge so it unfurls and covers most of the dick.

More often than not, I’d just let the guy do it himself - even if I was the one supplying the condom.

I think that’s what everyone expected me to do.

As a good little lady, I wasn’t supposed to do horny girl stuff like jerk a guy hard and then slowly roll a condom on his cock I can climb on it for a ride. And I definitely wasn’t supposed to go in full dirty girl mode and use my mouth to slip it on, like some kind of slutty party trick.

No need to give me the step-by-step tutorial because I wouldn’t be actually be the one doing the wrapping.

But that’s not the reason no one gave me the full rundown of how to use a condom.

I know it’s not because a lot of guys didn’t get that information either. They were probably given the same basic condom talk and they had to figure out the details on their own.

And that’s just not enough. Because using a condom is easy, but it’s not foolproof. Most people end up making a few mistakes with them.

These are some of the most common ones. If you can avoid them, you’ll get a lot more protection and pleasure out of your safe sex.

Using the Wrong Size

I didn’t even know there were different condom sizes until I was at the pharmacy, trying to figure out which ones to buy.

I didn’t know what kind of dick I was going to be sheathing with them, so I had to just take a guess on the size.

But even if I had seen the cock with my own two eyes, I wouldn’t have had a clue. What counts as a regular sized dick? How thick does it have to be before it needs large condoms?

Guys have the same problem. They don’t all know how they measure up, so they just get whatever.

I also knew some insecure dudes who couldn’t bring themselves to use anything smaller than XXL condoms - even though they definitely didn’t have XXL cocks

And that’s a problem, because the size of the condom makes a big difference.

If you’re using one that’s too thin, it’s more likely to tear. Too big and it’s going to be a bit loose. Either way, it won’t give you as much protection as you should.

You could figure out your size by trying different types of condoms and seeing which ones fit comfortably over your fully erect cock.

But there are two easier ways that’ll save you the trouble of tearing through a bunch of wrappers.

One involves a toilet paper roll. And yes, you stick your hard dick inside it.

If there’s some room left in the roll, you’ll need a slimmer condom. If you fit snugly inside it, something in the regular-sized range will do. And if you can’t get your cock in the roll without busting through the cardboard, you’ll need something on the larger side.

If you want to avoid the awkwardness of sticking your dick inside a cardboard, you can use Lovense’s condom sizing tool instead.

You scan the QR code with your phone and then use the interface to measure the width of your cock. Once you’ve got your measurement, it shows you which size you’ll need.

It involves a couple more steps than the toilet paper roll trick, but it will give you a more precise result.

Not Lubricating the Inside of the Condom

Most people know that lube makes sex more comfortable. But lube also makes it more pleasurable.

Lubing up just makes everything feel better - including your cock.

And that’s why it’s a really good idea to put a drop of lube in your condom before you slip it on.

You can put it in the reservoir tip or directly on your dick, but make sure you put it where it’ll make a real difference - right on the head of your cock.

That’s where you’re most sensitive, and that extra lube is going to increase that sensitivity and reduce any friction between your dick and the condom you wrapped over it.

A lot of people assume you can’t lube the inside of a condom because it would slip off. But it will still fit snuggly on your shaft, as long as you’re wearing the right size and don’t use more than one or two drops.

Just make sure you’re using the right kind of lube. Water-based, silicone-based, or hybrid lubes are fine. But oil-based lubes aren’t safe for condoms because they weaken the material. That includes natural lubes like coconut oil. Save those for your jerking sessions and use a safe option instead.

Not Reapplying Lube to the Outside of the Condom

Most condoms come pre-lubricated, which is fucking great because condoms aren’t as soft and smooth as a cock.

There’s a little more friction than there would be if you were going raw, so the lube really helps things get started.

But it might not be enough to keep things going.

It can be. The lube might last long enough. She might be wet enough to make up for it. If so, keep pounding away and have a great time.

You’re not always going to be that lucky, though. Water-based lubes can wear out pretty quickly. Not every girl gets all that wet. And sometimes you can really start to feel the friction.

That’s when you should apply more lube.

That means you’ll have to buy a bottle of lube and keep it wherever you plan on fucking. But it’s completely worth it to give your lady more comfort and lots of extra pleasure.

Keeping Condoms in Your Wallet

I get why the wallet seems like a good spot. It’s always on you.

If you manage to pick someone up, you don’t have to take a detour to the drug store to get protection. If your date night turns into a bit of horny, impromptu semi-public sex, you’re going to be ready.

But the problem with your wallet is that it’s too tight.

You can store condoms pretty much anywhere else, but a condom that sits in your wallet is going to get squeezed and rubbed in all sorts of ways. That will wear down the material which will make it more likely to tear - and nothing’s going to ruin your spontaneous sex like a busted condom.

Not Wearing a Condom for Blowjobs

I’ve been guilty of this one.

Until I met my husband, I insisted on using condoms with every single guy I fucked.

There was no way I was going to have unprotected sex. Same with anal - I knew doing it without a condom was risky.

But for some reason, blowjobs seemed safe.

No one ever warned me about sucking cock without a condom. To my knowledge, none of the other girls I knew gave head with any kind of protection.

And when I had the opportunity to part my lips and blow my boyfriend, I took his bare cock in my mouth.

It was really fucking hot. I loved the way his dick felt against my tongue. I was really nervous but too turned on to care.

But I wouldn’t do it again. Not without protection.

Blowing someone without a condom puts you at risk of a whole bunch of sexually transmitted infections. A lot of them are the same that you worry about when you’re fucking. But it’s still considered a bit unusual for people to sheath a cock before sucking it.

It should be normalized. We should all be stocking up on flavored condoms along with our regular ones. Or at the very least, keeping lots of flavored lube around.

Basically, if you’re in a situation where you’d use a condom for vaginal or anal sex, you should be wearing one for oral too.

Stock Up and Have Fun

There are a few things that I think people should have lots of.

Sex toys is one. They make sex and masturbation way better and you can never have too many of them.

Lube is another. I love trying out different ones and everyone should have a little assortment for all kinds of fun. Flavored lubes, anal lubes, lubes that are great for handjobs - whatever you’re into, get the kind of lube that makes it better.

And you should stock up on condoms so you’re always ready for anything.

Have different kinds so you can experiment with different textures and designs.

Have flavored ones to make blowjobs more playful.

Have more than you need in case you ever find yourself having a non-stop sexathon.

And if you know the right way to use them, you’ll have even more fun.
